About 3.30pm yesterday, a 12-year-old girl got off a bus at Tatton and as she walked south on Tamar Drive she reached the intersection with Kimberley Drive.
A man driving a white utility stopped next to the girl and attempted to have a conversation with her.
The girl spoke briefly to the man and walked away, telling her mother about the incident when she arrived home.
Officers from Wagga Police Station were alerted and attended shortly after.
Police have appealed to the public to assist them with identifying the man who is described as being about 70-years-old with short white hair, a long white beard and bushy eyebrows.
The man wore a baseball cap with a red emblem and drove a white utility.
Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
