WAGGA Library is celebrating National Library and Information Week from May 20 to 26. This year's theme is Truth, Integrity, Knowledge. A recent UK survey revealed that it has never been more important to have access to trusted information in order to make good, evidence-based decisions, and yet it has never been more difficult to find.

The majority of respondents agreed they trust information more when it is from a professional. The survey explored which professional groups the public believe are most likely to provide trustworthy information. Librarians are in the top five. Medical staff topped the list, with 74 per cent of British adults saying they thought they would provide trustworthy information, followed by teachers and police officers (both at 49 per cent), librarians (46 per cent) and lawyers (39 per cent).
Thousands of people make visit public libraries across Australia every day. Last year there were over 35 million visits to NSW public libraries. Closer to home nearly 200,000 people visited the Wagga Wagga City Library in 2017-2018 and 16,500 attended library programs.
Library Week represents all the ways that qualified library staff assist the community to navigate the information highway. Wagga library provides a range of programs and resources to help the community to find trustworthy information. Last Friday, the Scams Workshop, a partnership with Legal Aid and NSW Fair Trading, was attended by 29 people. The library also showcased its Legal Information Access Tool Kit at this event.

Libraries are vibrant social spaces that offer a wide range of leisure and educational pursuits, and our library is no exception.
The library offers a diverse range of programs and activities for the whole community. One-off events such as the Sydney Writers' Festival live streaming program and One Book One Wagga provide opportunities for book lovers to share a reading experience and add to the city's cultural landscape. There are also 46 book clubs, which meet monthly in members' homes, in local clubs, and in cafes and parks.
