The representative team will play against Newcastle-Hunter in a curtain raiser to the Wallaroos' game in Newcastle.

Southern Inland rugby manager Jack Heffernan believes it is a great opportunity to give them a chance on a national stage.

"It is exciting," Heffernan said.

"It will get them on a national stage and they will probably stick around to watch the national team and see what sort of quality is being played across the country."

The game will be on July 13, the same day as a general bye in the women's competition following the women's round at Conolly Rugby Complex last Saturday.

Southern Inland are also in the process of setting up another game in Canberra to coincide with the Brumbies Provincial Tournament over the June long weekend.

An opponent is yet to be set.

"It is a good opportunity to take them down as the men's team is already going down there," Heffernan said.

"We're just figuring out what team would be most available and most suited.

"Someone like Uni Norths would be really good considering how many former SIRU girls are in that team."

Training starts on Sunday with a large squad of around 50 expected to take part.

Heffernan said the sessions will remain open to anyone wanting to be involved.

"We probably won't whittle it down but have taken the opinion that anyone is welcome to come along and train," he said.

"Even if they are not taking it too seriously they are welcome to come along and learn new skills.

"We will obviously only be taking so many players to these games."
