But new Hoppers player-coach Claudia Barton says this weekend's clash with Leeton Whitton will give them a better indication of their progress after they easily accounted for winless Turvey Park 47-25 on Saturday.

Barton moved to Coolamon this year after several seasons with Farrer League's Northern Jets, and has brought with her the "telepathic" defensive partnership with her younger sister Lauren.

After three rounds Coolamon sit in fifth spot with two wins from three games. They have conceded the third fewest goals per game thus far, behind only undefeated Colingullie-Glenfield Park and Mangoplah-Cookardinia United-Eastlakes.

"I'm pretty sure she was always going to follow (me to Coolamon)," Claudia Barton said.

"It's always good because the communication is almost telepathic, you never have to tell her where to go.

"In pre-season we weren't too sure how we'd shape up. We have a few older heads in our team, but it's still a relatively young squad.

"The main thing is our younger girls are making it known they have a presence in the team, and they're quite mature on the court.

"You could see that coming through in the game on the weekend."

Barton singled out Alissa Neyland and Sarah Hooper as standouts against Turvey Park, who are yet to get a win on the board after four games.

"Alissa definitely stepped up on the weekend playing centre court and shooting," she said.

"She's one of the older heads and her versatility is so helpful, and Sarah Hooper's shooting was great."

Barton said she's expecting a tough battle against Leeton Whitton, who are desperate for a victory after winning just one of their first four games.

"I've heard they're a pretty physically and mentally tough team, but we think we can match them in that department," she said.

"Playing and coaching has its pros can cons. You don't see as much being on the court but you get another appreciation for the players, can tell them what they're doing wrong quickly and adjust."

In Saturday's other results MCUE stretched their unbeaten run to start the season to four with a comfortable 70-38 win over Leeton Whitton, Collingullie is also yet to taste defeat after a 49-14 thrashing of Gamain-Grong Grong-Matong and defending premiers Wagga Tigers improved to 4-1 with a 46-24 triumph over Narranderra.
