Courteney Cullum was diagnosed with the chronic autoimmune disease, Lupus, three years ago when she was just 18 years old.
"I was dealing with Chronic Fatigue, then the following year I got blood clots all through my right leg, and then the year after that I had an extremely low platelet count which of course contradicted the clotting so that's when they really started to look into it further and discovered I had Lupus," she said.
The 21-year-old decided to raise money for the Lupus Association of NSW throughout the month of May with her dog walking business.
"May 10 is World Lupus Day and I was going to give a donation anyway but thought it would be a good idea to give 20% of what I earn from my dog walking business to the association instead," she said.
"I started the business at the end of last year because I obviously love dogs but also the exercise was helping my condition."
Miss Cullum said living with Lupus had both good and bad days.
"I'm on medications, but the chronic fatigue and things like that are a daily thing I have to deal with. Some days I can barely notice it and I'm just a little bit tired, but other days I can't even get out of bed," she said.
"The dog walking actually helps me with [my condition], I found the more activities I did the better it was for my muscles and things like that."
With a goal of $100, Miss Cullum said every dollar counts.
"I'd love to get to $100, but if I can't, I can't, and if I get more that's fantastic," she said.
"I've got a lot of spare bookings available so if you do need a hand getting your dogs their daily exercise, don't hesitate to get in touch."
