Mesume ($3.80), which means daughter in Japanese, fought strongly to take out the Byrne Trailers Queen of the South Fillies and Mares Benchmark 66 Handicap (1400m).
Mesume is out of the mare Elkaydee, which had been named in honour of trainer Louise Dean's late daughter Lauren.
Dean trained Elkaydee to an emotional victory in the 2YO race at the Wagga carnival in 2012 and returned seven years later to win with her progeny.
Dean has been coming to the Wagga carnival for 30 years and specifically set Mesume for the Queen of the South.
"It's very, very satisfying," Dean said.
"We were soft of expecting that but she had never raced on anything worse than a soft five and it was her first time at 1400. The distance didn't worry me but the track did."
Albury mare Lost Command ($3.80) charged late to finish a half length away in second, with Inch Perfect ($7.50) 3 1/4 lengths back in third.
