That was the idea behind the creation of the Brothers Leprechauns All Abilities Team which welcomes anyone above the age of 12.
Heidi Pendrick's son Lachlan is 21 is a member of the team.
"As people with disabilities grow older, is a lot more difficult for them to be included and they don't seem to have that mateship that they did in school," she said.
"This team was a blessing and Lachie knows a lot of those kids.
"It's exciting and new and it is opening doors for these young people."
Ms Pendrick said Lachlan couldn't wait to play the first game.
"I want to see a lot more clubs get behind so there are other teams," she said.
Jess Murray, Leprechauns manager, said the team was a fantastic way for the community to become more involved and welcoming.
"This is for people don't need to have a diagnosis or a label to play in this team and there might be reasons why they can't play in mainstream," she said.
"We were keen for this to be inclusive of anyone wanted to get on the field.
"We are looking for more players, particularly adults, and looking for sponsors."
Ms Murray said the next step is to hopefully get the team their own uniforms and some equipment.
"Having their own uniforms will help them feel like part of a team," she said.
"We are so grateful to the Brothers, both juniors and seniors, who have been hugely supportive."
Ms Murray said in the team there are people with autism, mental health issues, physical disabilities and people with anxiety.
"It's about giving them somewhere to feel safe and socialise," she said.
"It's also about having fun, participating and everyone feeling like they can join.
"Building the community connections is what I want to see happen."
The team trains on Tuesday night from 5.30pm at the Equex Centre's Junior Fields and anyone interested is welcome to come along and see how the team works.
