After the NDIS was introduced on July 1 2017 growth at Kurrajong has been extremely rapid.
Since the introduction an additional 131 support staff have been employed to meet the individual needs and goals of clients.
"We now have 520 staff located across the Riverina and Murray regions of NSW plus 144 supported employees with disability working in our commercial enterprises," Kurrajong CEO Ray Carroll said.
"We are now able to offer supports that were not previously provided prior to the NDIS such as speech therapy, occupational therapy and physiotherapy for adults and social group activities that take place in the community in the evenings and over the weekends."
Kurrajong First Contact has also been implemented. The service is made up of a team of NDIS experts located throughout the Riverina and Murray regions.
"Kurrajong First Contact have a thorough understanding of the NDIS and keep up to date with any changes made to the NDIS," Mr Carroll said.
"Kurrajong First Contact staff work one-on-one with people with disability and their families and carers to help them understand and implement their NDIS plans successfully."
The number of young adults with disability seeking a pathway from school to employment has increased along with speech therapy, occupational therapy and physiotherapy supports.
The Kurrajong's Employment Preparation team has grown significantly and is now providing a School Leavers Employment Supports (SLES) course to more than 30 clients while the Kurrajong Therapy Plus is a multidisciplinary team of speech pathologists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, educators and family support workers
"We've also seen an increase in short term accommodation for clients across the Riverina and Murray regions which is provided by Kurrajong's Supported Living team," Mr Carroll said.
"The NDIS is a fantastic social initiative for people with disability and their families who now have a better say in how they lead their lives. One of my roles as CEO is to make sure we continue to provide the services expect from us. There are many opportunities with the NDIS, because people with disability now have much more choice and control over their lives."
