Limited to 500 vehicles, about 1000 people from 250 postcodes nationally, except from the Northern Territory, are taking part in the seven day festivities that host an endless mix of activities.

Lynn Fitzpatrick left her hometown in Wollongong a couple of weeks ago, headed for their first Stone the Crows festival.

"It's the first year for us, but there's a bit of a story as we were supposed to come last year but our car broke down and it was rolled over so we never made it," she said.

"There's so much variety, like arts and craft, seminars, talks and music."

Myra Males, from the Southern Highlands, was joined by her husband and her 16-year-old dog Bonnie.

"This is our first time and there's about 15 of us and this is where we decided to spend our Easter this year," she said.

"We like the country and bush music, and anything else will be a bonus.

"We were at Jugiong for two nights and we left home on Wednesday and afterwards we might head to another festival and just keep on rolling."

One of the event's organisers Jim Haynes said about 20 per cent of the festival population are newcomers.

"We have a day pass and locals do come but we bring so many people into the region and we calculated that the average time they spend is 16.2 days," Mr Haynes said.

"There's caravans, motor homes, camper-vans, fifth wheelers, combie vans, pop tops and we also have about 70 solo travelers who like to stay together.

"The biggest complaint that we get, when we do our exit surveys, is that we couldn't fit everything in - because there's just so many activities."

Volunteer Michael Coleman, from Ulladulla, has been volunteering for about five years and said he has attended since the first festival in 2013.

"It's the diversity of activities that are available to people," he said.

"You can do anything from hands-on kit assembling, to playing music, poetry and arts and crafts.

"As a festival, it's probably the best one I've ever been to."
