Michael Warner, 29, of West Wyalong, faced Wagga District Court on Monday for sentencing in relation to an aggravated break and enter to commit a serious indictable offence, namely intimidation, and breaching an apprehended violence order on October 26, 2017.
He had pleaded guilty to both charges and was convicted.
He has been jailed for 22 months and six months concurrently for the two offences.
Documents tendered to the court state that Warner and the victim had been drinking at a mutual friend's house before arguing, which caused the victim to leave.
Later that night, Warner went to the victim's house and demanded her to let him in.
He then kicked the door four times before punching a window, causing it to break, and climbed through.
The court heard the victim was left terrified before she and her children went to a neighbour's house to call police.
Later that night, Warner sent multiple threatening voice messages and text messages to the victim.
On April 13 this year, Warner was arrested and charged with six fresh offences related to AVO breaches, assaults, destroying property and stalking.
He pleaded guilty to all charges in Wagga Local Court on Monday before being sentenced for the 2017 offences.
Judge Gordon Lerve said the fresh matters meant the court "is simply unable to find on balance the offender is unlikely to re-offend".
"The offender did not make a positive impression on me [during an earlier hearing]," Judge Lerve said.
He also said he was not dissuaded from his original view that the offender was not remorseful.
Defence lawyer Sam Mason had earlier argued for more parole time, saying her client has shown progress from rehabilitation while in custody.
"The strongest supporting evidence is the psychologist's report," she said.
