Lizzie Macquarie, the publicity officer for Wagga's RDA, explained how six participants from Wagga's RDA branch were chosen to compete in Sydney.

"Every year all the centres hold individual Mounted Games, and all the times of contestants from here are compared, then the best get sent to the Royal Easter Show as the Mounted Games state championship, so we had excellent competition with six of ours making it through," she said.

Ms Macquarie said the group were not only lucky enough to attend, but also placed well on the day.

"Our six did amazing, they all went home with a ribbon each and enjoyed it I think, it was a good day," she said.

Riders competed in four games in Sydney: the Twist and Turn, Snakes and Ladders, Crazy 8's and Bending, each with four levels, including on-lead walk, off-lead walk, trot and canter.

Contestants Charlie and Julie-May placed 2^nd and 5^th respectively in the off-lead walk, while at trot level, Jacinta won 1^st place and Reserved Champion, alongside Zoey in 3^rd, Lillian in 4^th and Natasha in 5^th place.

Ms Macquarie said the opportunity to attend the show was the most valuable part.

"Our riders, horses and volunteers had trained hard to get to the games and the riders families raised money to help get the three horses to Sydney as well as kind sponsorship from Wagga Rotary Sunrise," she said.

The children now go back into normal lessons after their victory, and in term three will begin practicing again for the next mounted games.
