After steering the Sharks to last year's championship in his first season in charge, the waters have hardly been treacherous in a flying start to their title defence.

They backed up a 6-1 win over Tumut with a 9-0 belting of South Wagga, but Tinnock is under no illusions next Sunday's grand final re-match with Young Lions at Hall Bros Oval will be a far more accurate gauge.

"Those two (we've played) are probably two lower teams, but we've got a tough run of fixtures after this and we're just keen for more challenges," Tinnock said.

"It will be hard to tell (where we're positioned) until we play everyone, but Hanwood look classy after coming over from Griffith, and the other is probably Wagga United."

Tinnock was able to blood promising teenagers Liam Bryder and Jackson Manton in the back end of last week's game, and the opening fortnight was used to forge strong habits.

"We were able to give some of our younger boys a go who are on the fringe of first grade, and work on our structure," Tinnock said.

"At 5-0 up at halftime our number one goal was a clean sheet. I didn't care what the overall score was, as long as we did that and to play to the structure we want to in the bigger games."

Young have had a mixed start to the year, following up a 4-3 loss to Henwood Park with an encouraging scoreless draw against new competition heavyweights Hanwood on Sunday.

The Griffith powerhouse was tipped to dominate after switching to the Wagga league, but the Lions shutout will give belief to their rivals.

The Pascoe Cup will be on hiatus over the Easter weekend, with Lake Albert, Wagga United and Leeton United the only teams to win both their games.
