Despite missing coach Glenn Dumbrell and big prop Saul Houma, the Wagga side had enough strike power to make it two wins from as many games.

Stand-in captain Lachlan Cuell believes the 26-20 win is just what the side was after to start the season.

"I've never had much success over there regardless of how they are travelling so to win over there, with the break coming up, means we can keep building positivity and that winning culture," Cuell said.

"(Two from two) you can't ask any more than that and that was the goal at the start of the year.

"We still have a fair bit of work to do in both attack and defence but we have won our first two, the boys are pretty happy and there is a bit of confident around.

"It is up to us now to keep putting in the hard work at training and improve our game to get some good results in the next couple of weeks, as we have some reasonable opposition coming up."

Kangaroos also overcame an early leg injury to fill-in hooker Hudson Frazier, but Eddie Jackson didn't look out of place at dummy half.

He scored two quick tries in the second half to get Kangaroos on the front foot.

Cuell was impressed with his efforts.

"Eddie has been great," he said.

"He's quick, got a great footy brain and has a great skill set actually.

"You can almost play him anywhere as he's a bit of a footballer.

"He can play on the wing, at hooker, in the halves, fullback so he can cover a few spots for us."

Cootamundra fired out of the blocks and led 10-0 after try to Chris and Dan Maher.

However Kangaroos got back into the contest after a double from Hayden Jolliffe but the visitors trailed 10-8 at the break.

Jackson then made his presence felt in the middle with his double handing Kangaroos a 20-10 lead.

Cootamundra responded with their own hooker James Woolford crossing only for Kangaroos to edge ahead once more as Dylan Arragon scored.

Ky White set up an grandstand finish when his late try made it a six-point game, but the Wagga side did enough to remain unbeaten.

Cuell admitted the side made it hard for themselves at times and is looking for a more rounded performance when they tackle premiers Gundagai after the Easter break.

It will give a better indication of where the team is at.

"That is going to be a good test for us and we will know really where we are at," Cuell said.

"They are the reigning premiers, both teams will be fresh and hopefully we will have two back on deck, our two main guys."

Meanwhile Cootamundra have another big challenge as they look to bring up their first win of the season.

They host Southcity in what is a third straight game at Les Boyd Oval to start the competition.
