The Wagga side overcame a slow first half to take a 66-20 win over Albury at Murrayfield on Saturday.
However co-coach Angus Stevenson didn't think the scoreline was a true reflection of the game.
"I thought Albury were actually really good, they had some really good ball carriers and there were a couple of easy points that were put on that didn't need to be put on," Stevenson said.
"I thought Albury looked far better than what they scoreline indicates.
"They punched well above their weight."
Albury lead for most of the first half before two late tries from James Grimmett gave Waratahs plenty of momentum heading into the second stanza.
They certainly used it to their advantage, but Stevenson wants to see plenty of improvement from the side.
"There is still a lot to work on" he said.
"It is good as it is going to give us so much ammunition at training in terms of all the little things we want to iron out.
"There were still elements of the previous game but there were also some really good elements as well.
"Everyone is really happy but I felt jaded with the fact I thought there was so much to work on.
"We are a long way off our best."
Grimmett and Joe Reynolds both scored hat-tricks in the win, with Reynolds coming off the bench.
Sam Bunny also crossed for a double.
