The Blacks missed their first opportunity to take the lead when David Serukai tried for a penalty goal, but they didn't have to wait long to open the scoring with Steven Wilson finding his way to the line.

CSU answered quickly but after making a break and not being able to control the ball the Blacks were able to make up for it with Neori Raika Qaranivalu able to make a break out wide and find his way to the try line.

Qaranivalu scored his second soon after before Naseri Taifai gave the Blacks a 26-7 lead before CSU crossed on the brink of halftime to reduce the gap to 12 points.

Taifai and Suliano Kabara scored just after halftime to extend the Griffith side's lead before a period of ill-discipline saw two Blacks sent to the sin bin due to repeated ruck infringements.

CSU made the most of the two-man advantage while Kabara also found his way over to score his second of the match to see the Blacks leading 43-21 with 10 minutes remaining.

Dan McGreal got across the try line before Taifai completed his hat-trick to see the Blacks walking away with a 34-point victory.

While the victory was pleasing for Blacks coach Craig Morriss, he knows there is plenty of room for improvement.

"I think we gave away 30 penalties from around the ruck and I counted the backline as having turned the ball over 14 times which is a lot of defending and just kept those guys in the game," he said.

"Reddies kept coming back so good luck to them they scored a couple of good tries, and I think they will get stronger as the year goes on.

"Our boys have a lot of work to do with their spots on the line. We have a good turnout to training now so the boys can't rest on their laurels, there might be some movement."

The win could be even more critical with games against Wagga City and Albury to follow after the Easter break.

"We need to get as many points on the board as we can," he said.
