Instead, he got a job at The Haven and has been there for 45 years.
But that's not his only link to the aged care facility. Michael met Meredith, his wife of 31 years, as she was leaving a successful interview for a nursing job at The Haven.
Mrs Parker, The Haven's care manager, has worked at the centre in three separate stints over 30 years.
Not only does she see her husband at work, but also her parents, Jim and Helen Tregea, and aunt Babara Tregea.
"Michael's mum was here previously for 10 years. She passed away about a decade ago. My mum and dad live here now. My aunty was 92 and living alone and I helped her to move in just three months ago. They all live together now, and they couldn't be happier," Mrs Parker said.
"My aunty Barbara could never come and visit us because she was living in Moss Vale, which is a five-hour drive away. The three of them haven't seen each other for years because of their age and the distance. Now she's here and they're happy because they can see each other every day.
"When we have an event or a get-together at The Haven, mum and dad always come. They love seeing me at work. They are very proud of both Michael and I. They are always saying 'hey, that's my daughter' to the other residents."
Now retired, Canon Tregea, 90, was twice attached to St Luke's Anglican Church in Junee.
He was a curate there in the late 1950s and returned in the early 1990s as rector.
He and Mrs Tregea, 88, have been married for 65 years.
Miss Tregea said she and her brother had been part of a close family, but had not been able to spend much time together since they had grown up, so they were loving the chance to live in the same facility and chat every day.
