Heywood booked a place in the $170,000 Wagga Gold Cup (2000m) on Sunday when Class Clown captured the Gundagai Cup (1800m) at big odds.
Now he will look to guarantee himself a place in the Town Plate with four runners in Sunday's prelude, where the winner is exempt of the ballot for the $150,000 feature on May 2.
Heywood has nominated Fermanagh Lad, Leucura, Not Too Sure and last-start winner Delivered for the $32,000 Prized Icon 2019 Wagga Town Plate Prelude (1200m).
He hopes to start all four.
"If all four get a run then they will most likely go there," Heywood said.
"Three of them I want to get into the Town Plate, and Delivered really needs to have a run.
"There is a nice Benchmark 66 1200 on Cup day but we need to get a run into him."
Fermanagh Lad, who finished second behind Mount Horeb in the Albury City Handicap (1175m) last start, will spearhead Heywood's team.
"You would have to go with Fermanagh Lad on his form," he said.
"Not Too Sure is always honest, he always turns up. He's had a few niggling issues but we're on top of them at the moment.
"Leucura is coming off a long spell and Delivered, he flew home the other day. His last 600 was super. I don't think there is any doubt that Delivered is up to that company, it's just going to be his benchmark that is the biggest killer."
In-form apprentice Josh Richards will retain the ride on Fermanagh Lad, while Brad Vale will again pilot Not Too Sure.
Nick Heywood could return from injury to ride Leucura, while Jean Van Overmeire has been offered the ride on Delivered.
Mount Horeb will be out to emulate his Albury performance at Wagga. He is among the 28 nominations for Sunday's prelude.
Got The Goss, winner of the 2015 Town Plate, and Sure And Fast, runner up in 2016, are both nominated for the prelude.
Jester Angel, Takookacod, Anna's Joy, Common Purpose, My Maher, Who's Knocking and Dylan's Deeva are other notable nominations.
There are 21 nominations for the $37,000 Kooringal Stud Murrumbidgee Cup (1800m), where the winner is guaranteed a start in the Gold Cup.
The Craig Widdison-trained Willi Willi, who won last year's Albury Gold Cup, will be allocated the top weight, while Matthew Dale has nominated Animalia and Belfast Bella.
