The Griffith club returned to the Wagga competition for the first time in 19 years and could not have been more impressive, particularly early on.
Nick Kennedy and Kyle Greaves both scored hat-tricks as Hanwood sounded a warning to the remainder of the competition with a dominant first-up performance.
Hanwood coach Anthony Agresta was pleased to begin the club's new venture with a win.
"It's a good start. It was a pretty pleasing performance," Agresta said.
"The boys came out all guns blazing. It was one of those things, I think the boys were itching to get out there and play.
"It was a good performance and I was happy with how everything went."
While Kennedy and Greaves combined for most of Hanwood's score, Dom Torino and Brad Clark also snared goals.
Hanwood started the game at a extremley high intensity, something Agresta put down to the start of the new season.
"I think it was one of those things where it was our first game and everyone was up and about," he said.
"We've got a long way to go and we're not getting ahead of ourselves too much. It's a good start but there is still a long way to go."
Former professional Joe Schirripa was among those to take the field for Hanwood, in his first game back after a couple of seasons off with injury.
