Riverina Police District Inspector John Aichinger said there was a party on William Street, Junee, on Friday evening where an altercation occurred.
"Sometime after that, about 12.40am on Saturday morning, there has been a serious incident at another address in George Street," he said.
"A number of males have forcefully entered a house, effectively conducting a home invasion and seriously assaulting a 41-year-old male at that residence."
Inspector Aichinger said five children, all under the age of 12, were home at the time of the invasion.
"It's a frightening event for any family," he said.
"Quite a terrifying string of events for those children."
Detectives commenced investigations and, as a result, a 19-year-old Junee man was arrested on Tuesday.
"He has been charged with four offences," Inspector Aichinger said.
"He will be appearing before ... court on May 15 and has been granted conditional bail.
"There is another 23-year-old male in custody at Junee Police Station and he has been assisting police with their inquiries."
On Tuesday night, a vehicle, owned by the victim of the home invasion, was burnt out at the same location and Inspector Aichinger said they are investigating whether there is a link or not.
Inspector Aichinger said it is expected further arrests will be made as investigations continue and the 41-year-old man suffered injuries to his face and arm, but is recovering well.
Investigators are urging anyone with information to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
