The decision was made after Racing NSW was unable to find a suitable date in the coming weeks that does not clash with group 3 races run in Melbourne and Sydney over 2000m.
Racing NSW also wanted to avoid clashes with upcoming SDRA feature races including the Gundagai Cup and Murrumbidgee Cup at Wagga Wagga.
Instead, an additional race meeting has been programmed at Albury on Thursday, April 18.
The Albury Racing Club will offer free entry and is hoping to attract holidaymakers with the date coinciding with the first week of school holidays.
Good Friday is the following day.
According to the club's website the Gold Cup has been run every year since 1883.
Club CEO, Steve Hetherton, said while it was unfortunate not to be able to run the cup this year, at least the club could salvage something from the Gold Cup wreck.
"Losing the cup is not ideal," Mr Hetherton said.
"But understandably we realise we can't impact on other clubs in the SDRA."
The meeting will be a Showcase meeting with $240,000 in prizemoney.
All the prizemoney will be paid by Racing NSW, with the Albury Racing Club not being required to contribute any of the prizemoney.
"Showcase meetings are hard to get and participants still get to race for the bigger prizemoney," he said.
Mr Hetherton said he was still waiting to hear back from Racing NSW officials after they inspected the racetrack on Tuesday to probe the failure of the track on Gold Cup day.
The committee also met on Tuesday to assess the financial fallout after the Gold Cup was abandoned.
Mr Hetherton conceded the club was expecting to record a second financial loss in the past three years.
"We are about half-way through doing a full assessment," he said.
"I would say we look likely to record another loss."
