Queanbeyan's senior team enjoyed a 66-point win over Griffith before their reserve grade team edged out an under-strength Temora.
It was a couple of former Riverina footballers that did a lot of the damage for Queanbeyan.
Former North Wagga star Lachie Highfield took best-on-ground honours and finished the day with 3.8, rotating between the midfield and forward-line.
Campbell Lovell also proved dangerous off half-back for Queanbeyan.
It was Griffith's opening hit-out of the pre-season and coach Will Griggs was happy to get a run under his team's belt.
"It was our first real hit-out and we were obviously a bit fumbly and things like that," Griggs said.
"We got to blood some young guys, which was fantastic, but it also showed that we've got to work a bit harder in a few areas.
"We've got some work to do with our running capacity but they were quality opposition. Their running game was very good and they were very skilful."
In good signs for Griffith, returning junior Alex Overs was the Swans' best in the trial.
He has been unable to begin training with Griffith yet but Overs wasted no time making an impact, winning a lot of the ball across half-back and then through the midfield.
Lucas Conlan was strong across centre-half-back, while Jacob Conlan was good at centre-half-forward.
Griggs said both Conlan brothers are likely to start the season in those positions.
Nathan Richards also showed good signs in the ruck, while Jordan Iudica impressed for the Swans.
Another positive for Griffith was the debut of 15-year-old Kahlan Spencer.
The only injury concern for Griffith was a rolled ankle to promising teenager Blake Argus.
Griffith will now set their sights on a round one grand final rematch against Collingullie-Glenfield Park at Exies Oval.
"We'll have an intra-club, one or two, and that's it," Griggs said.
"We'll do a little bit more fitness and then do some more game specific stuff after that."
Meantime, Matt Harpley was the shining light in Temora's loss to Queanbeyan reserves on Saturday.
Harpley kicked six goals in only his second appearance since undergoing a knee reconstruction.
Harpley made his return in Temora's trial loss to Camden Cats a fortnight ago but was much better for the run and looked imposing in attack for the Kangaroos on Saturday.
It was Temora's second trial loss after going down to Camden by about 50 points.
