"I'm extremely honoured to be able to end 35 years of National rule and look forward to representing you as your Member for Murray," she has told voters.
The Nationals' Austin Evans, who held the seat for just 17 months, has conceded to Ms Dalton.
Mr Evans won the seat at a byelection caused by the resignation of former member Adrian Piccoli.
At that ballot, Ms Dalton came close to breaking The Nationals' three-decade strangehold on the seat.
"Last night I rang Helen Dalton to congratulate her on her victory in the Murray electorate. Of course, I am disappointed in the result, but the people of Murray have voted for a change in representation and I respect that decision," Mr Evans said.
"I am so grateful to all those volunteers and supporters who gave so much."
