Billed as his most extensive tour to date, Kernaghan has announced 41 tour dates so far Australia-wide for the release of his new album Backroad Nation.
The first location to hear the country singer's fresh content will be the coastal town of Berry, and Kernaghan said the excitement is building.
"I'm finalising getting these songs together at the moment, and there's a lot of excitement," he said.
"It's like the impending birth of a baby, except it's 12 new songs."
Kernaghan was born and raised in Albury and said the country lifestyle was a big influence on his music.
"I'm a Riverina boy through and through, it's in my DNA and features in a lot of my songs, especially Boys From The Bush," he said.
"Even doing early band shows before my records I'd come up to Wagga to play and bring all my gear in a horse float."
Performing in regional areas of Australia is often a highlight according to Kernaghan, as the crowd matches the vibe of his music.
"This music and these songs are about us, so that's why I do what I do, to write songs about Australia and our people and our incredible way of life," he said.
The Backroad Nation tour will feature re-designed lighting, rigs and screens, and Kernaghan said the production will be huge.
"I've had 38 number one songs so far so there will be plenty of the originals for the crowd to sing along to, as well as the new tracks from my latest album to look forward to," he said.
"A lot of new design elements have been added with the staging, lighting and screens, plus the hottest band in the land, The Wolfe Brothers, will be joining me and opening up the shows with a bunch of their own hits."
The Wolfe Brothers made country music history in January becoming the first group to win four Golden Guitars in one night, including Album Of The Year for their release, Country Heart.
One of Australia's brightest new stars, Christie Lamb, will also join Kernaghan for his Backroad Nation tour.
