Cootamundra police arrested three juveniles after a short chase from Cootamundra's main street resulted in an allegedly stolen ute smashing into a late model SUV.

There were no serious injuries, but a female passenger, one of four people packed into the front cabin of the stolen vehicle, suffered minor head impact and received ambulance treatment.

A mother and baby in the SUV were uninjured and police said they were taken to a nearby friend's house to recover from the shock.

Police allege the ute had previously been chased from Yass to Binalong, but the pursuit was called off after the utility entered the village centre at speed.

The car was then followed from a distance and monitored by other police along Burley Griffin Way through Harden and Wallendbeen.

After entering Cootamundra it went at speed through a school crossing, then swerved dangerously to avoid a car reversing into a parking space in Parker Street.

An eye witness said the car then nearly ran over a pedestrian, and police gave chase.

When the car reached the intersection of Lawrence Street and Sutton Street, the main street leading south to Junee, the driver attempted to "undertake" a late model Honda SUV.

This attempt failed, and the early model Toyota trayback ute collided with the side of the SUV.

Two of the juveniles in the ute attempted to run from the scene, jumping the fence of a house on the corner, but were arrested soon after in front of the Bradman Motel.

There was loud banging from inside the paddy wagon as it passed the crash scene.

Police said all four juveniles had been packed into the single front cabin of the stolen ute, with one laying across the footwell.

The driver of the other vehicle had recently undergone neck surgery, so was taken to Cootamundra Hospital for assessment.

They were found to be uninjured.

Police believe three of the youths are from Wagga Wagga and one from Queanbeyan, where the ute was stolen, Inspector Frank Brown from Cootamundra police said.

The driver has been refused bail and charged with driving a motor vehicle while disqualified and other offences relating to the pursuit.
