Phillip Errington brought his children along with and their morning was proving fruitful with just one hour left.
"We got here about 5.30am getting ready to start at 6am," he said.
"It's not been bad, we have caught seven so far.
"We do the Fisherama every year because it's a great local comp and it's easy for the kids to come down here and have a fish."
Mr Errington said he loved fishing and wanted to pass on the skills to his children.
"Just the simplicity of it and being able to sit in a chair and relax," he said.
"My top tip is; you have to have burley. You can't catch carp without it."
Andrew brought his stepson along for the second year in the row.
"We didn't have any luck last year and we hadn't any luck this year, but it is still good fun," he said.
"It's good to bring the kids out and pass the skills on and get them outside and into the fresh air."
One of the event organisers, Andrew McPherson, said the turnout was low compared to previous years, but it was still a great morning.
"There is still plenty of fish getting caught," he said.
"More than 105 registrations and more than 20 fish.
"The largest so far is 4.5 kilograms."
Mr McPherson said despite concerns that the event was cancelled, it was still going strong.
"We have some flyers going around to protect the turtles and the environment," he said.
