While the official birthday is not until July, a range of informal and formal celebrations will be held for former and current staff across the campuses. 

Wagga's CSU winery will be holding a function on March 16, between 2 to 6pm.

"As we celebrate 30 years of Charles Sturt University this year, it's appropriate that we also celebrate the people who made the university what it is today," said Sarah Ansell, director of advancement. 

"It's an opportunity for as many as possible former and present staff members to come together. 

"The second aspect is trying to document informal history told by the people, for the people and celebrate people from a range of categories." 

Ms Ansell said these categories are: visionaries, workers, families, the quiet achievers, larrikins and storytellers. 

“There are so many people who have gone above and beyond to make it the unique place it is today," she said. 

"There are some stories of staff waking up at 2am to pick up an international student at the station. 

"We will be trying to collect these stories online as there are so many lovely, little tales that show CSU staff care about our students and communities." 

Ms Ansell said she hopes these stories could be incorporated into a book or exhibited. 

"We're expecting about 60 people to join us on Saturday, but people are more than welcome to attend," she said.
