The former Raider will be the Viking Ambassador for the round eight game and will blow the Raiders Viking Horn and start the Viking clap for the first time outside of Canberra Stadium.
The 1990 premiership player, who know calls Wagga home, seems the ideal candidate to start what has been a cult favourite with Raiders fans.
He's looking forward to Canberra playing in the city on May 5.
"It's going to be big," Barnhill said. "I think we will have a full house - 10,000 plus - and a massive game."
Barnhill played 210 games for Canberra, St George and Sydney City plus times for NSW in State of Origin.
He thinks it's great Wagga is getting an NRL game.
"It doesn't happen often enough," he said. "I think clubs should be made to go to the bush every year.
"It is starting to happen with a few clubs and Canberra are really treating Wagga like their backyard with their strong ties."
Around 40 per cent of the 10,000 tickets have already been sold.
Deputy mayor Dallas Tout is urging to pre purchase tickets for risk missing out.
"As usual people tend to leave things until the last minute and if they do that in this case they will be disappointed," Tout said.
"Please get online, get the tickets and assure yourself of a place at the game."
Work continues to progress at Equex Centre.
New female dressing sheds are still being installed while extra seating is waiting to be fixed into place.
Wagga Rugby League chairman Warren Barclay is pleased with how things are coming along.
"We are pleased with where we are the moment given the fact we only started work in December," Barclay said.
The new seating will see fixed seating options increase from 360 to 750.
There has also been changes to the eastern hill.
It has been returfed, more irrigation works have been completed plus existing canteens have been moved higher on the hill.
It ensures the ground's capacity continues to expand.
Barclay is looking for it all to be ready for when the Group Nine season starts on April 6.
