The Narrandera-born Mr Foley will be the United Australia Party candidate in the yet-to-be-called election.

"I decided I liked their platform and it's going to put Australians first, Australian business first and Australian workers first," he told The Daily Advertiser.

"The other parties are not that way focused; they're more focused on fighting among themselves and their own power.

"The political tribalism between the two parties is what really annoyed me and Australians need a formidable third choice." 

The United Australia Party was formerly known as Palmer United Party, which had its leader and namesake Clive Palmer win a lower house seat along with three senate seats as a result of the 2013 federal election.

Mr Foley said the party would be announcing more of its policies when an election date was announced.

"Policies that we are out in front with at the moment is 20 per cent less tax for workers or businesses (who are) 200 kilometres outside of a capital city … if we can get balance of power in the next government," he said.
