The home side produced a big result first up, beating Sydney East to get the day away to a bright start.
A loss to Hunter region followed but Riverina defeated South Coast in the last of their games. That third win in their last four games (after a victory late on Wednesday) handed them a sixth place finish overall.
"It was a fantastic effort. They had a couple of ties (on day one) and if they were able to win those games they would've finished top four," Riverina sports coordination officer, Terry Willis said.
"They can be really pleased as a young team with how they performed."
Leila Wadley was named Most Valuable Player for Riverina.
The might of the metropolitan sides was on show throughout the three-day carnival with Sydney West claiming the championship ahead of Sydney North after a round robin tournament pitted each region against all others once.
The city teams also dominated the two representatives side selected from the carnival with the youthful Riverina outfit missing out and only one country player selected.
Willis said Wagga's role as host was a roaring success.
"From start to finish it was fantastic," he said. "It was really well supported, there was a strong standard of player and it brings a lot of people to town for three or four days. Wagga softball were fantastic, they were really supportive."
