After a bye in round one, the Bushpigs' season starts against Riverina Lions at Wagga's Apex Park on Friday night.
The university club hasn't had the ideal preparation with the academic year only beginning next week.
Combined with off-season changes, it's a challenging build-up.
"We've got a bit of a new team. Obviously being a uni side, we've got a fair bit of turnover from last year, with people finishing degrees, or being away or on placement," Goldsworthy said.
"We've tried to have training over summer and the girls have been doing their own fitness and skills at home. This week has been our first real week but being O-Week, not all of our players are back, some won't be back until (Friday) night."
"I think this week's training has been quite good. All the girls know what their role is. We're as prepared as we could be given the circumstances so it's positive from that point of view."
The Lions opened their season with a three-point loss at Griffith last Friday.
Although they broke through for a premiership win in AFL Canberra last season, it means two straight losses in AFL Southern NSW competition, after dropping last year's grand final to the Bushpigs by 14 points.
"It's going to be a tough game, they challenged us both times we played them last year and it was pretty even games both times," Goldsworthy said.
"We'll just be hoping to do our best on the day."
The Bushpigs completed an unbeaten season last year.
Their game against the Lions is at 6.30pm, with Snowy Mountains and Griffith to follow at 7.30pm at Apex Park. Newcomers Brookdale Bluebells have the bye this week.
Goldsworthy didn't see last week's fixtures but expects an impressive competition.
"Going off last year, it was a pretty high standard. For a new competition in the region, I think the standard was quite high. A lot of the girls we had last year were playing their first games and I think it's a credit to the girls who are involved with all teams how good the standard is," she said.
Round 1 results:
Griffith 3.3 (21) d Riverina Lions 3.0 (18)
Snowy Mountains 5.4 (34) d Brookdale Bluebells 4.2 (26)
