The $9.2 million facility at the Equex Centre features multiple courts, function space with catering facilities, meeting rooms and a 1200-seating capacity for events.
The council's project manager Tom Lemerle said "It's a facility unlike anything else we’ve got".
"It’s brand new, top of the line and we’ve really pushed for greater attention to details with the finishes," Mr Lemerle said.
"It’s a sporting facility first and foremost but we’ve made provisions for multi purpose activities."
He said the most challenging aspect was the site.
"From a technical perspective, it’s a very reactive place," he said.
"However, what’s worth noting is that it line marked to national and international standards."
Mr Lemerle said he would like to see national and international sporting teams and events here in the near future.
Also attending the opening was the Wagga Indian Community.
Representative Sharoni Dayanand said the MPS was a "prime spot for social and cultural events".
"The Wagga Indian community hosts events such as the Festival of Lights and we're always on the lookout for facilities that we see ourselves using," Ms Dayanand said.
"The capacity as well is a bonus — it accommodates many people.
"Wagga is very much growing and diverse community, so it’s a good thing for the city as it’d cater for the long term."
The opening had hundreds of attendees from across the business, community, sporting and political sectors.
City mayor, Greg Conkey, said it was an exciting time for the residents, sportspeople and businesses of the city.
"The new centre will promote sport throughout our city by catering to the growing demand for indoor court space, increasing sports participation during winter and allowing matches that might have been cancelled on rainy days to carry on," Cr Conkey said.
"The stadium will be a valuable community space which will enable sports clubs to expand, promote accessible sports and increase the number of visitors and the amount of money spent during events, which is a win all round."
Wagga Netball Association president Rosemary Clark and Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack unveiled the plaque.
"Conferences and events are big money earners and with a seated capacity of 1200 people, this new stadium will bring in the kinds of events that belong in NSW's biggest inland city,” Mr McCormack said.
“There’s been a growing demand among local sporting groups for more venues and this new three-court indoor stadium shows how the Liberal and Nationals Government investment in sporting infrastructure not only fulfills important community needs but also secures the economic future of our regions.”
About 300 jobs were created during the facility's construction between February 2018 and January 2019.
Funding for the facility consisted of $4.4 million from the Federal Government, $4.5 million from Wagga City Council and $250,000 from Wagga Netball Association.
