NSW RFS operational officer Bradley Stewart said the decision to start issuing fire permits had been made so local landholders to manage their properties for agricultural purposes.
“Landholders are reminded that below average rainfall is forecast for the foreseeable future with the threat of grass fires still a very real possibility," he said.
"They are strongly encouraged to exercise caution when using fire for land agricultural purposes,” Mr Stewart said.
“An escaped burn can quickly spread and threaten life and property."
Serious penalties, including fines or imprisonment, apply for failing to observe permit conditions or starting a fire without a permit during the bushfire danger period.
Fire permits can be obtained from your local Rural Fire Brigade or by calling the Riverina Fire Control Centre on (02) 6971 4500.
Members of the public are encouraged to only report unattended fires directly to triple zero (000).
