What began as an event aimed at lifting the profile of a Wagga winery has become a firm fixture on the city’s social calendar.
Naomi Miller and Tim McMullen from Borambola Wines held the first Cork and Fork event in Wagga in October 2015.
Since then the event’s offerings of a relaxed atmosphere, music and food from one of a variety of vendors has proved popular not only in Wagga, but also in Albury.
More than 2500 people were at Albury’s first 2019 Cork and Fork Fest last week.
Cork and Fork Fest will be held in Wagga on Friday, February 22, from 5.30pm in the civic centre precinct.
There will be live music by Dane Kennedy Music and Dean Haitani Music.
Wagga-based Dane has travelled the world with his music and recorded his first song at the House of Blues in Nashville, while Dean has also performed globally.
Fourteen stall holders will offer food from around the world, Ms Miller said.
From paella to pizza and burgers, or Syrian cuisine, Korean barbecue and mini Dutch pancakes, there will be something to tempt every palate.
If you fancy noodles or some modern Australia cuisine, stall holders have got you covered. For sweets lovers, there will be ice cream and chocolate treats.
The bar is serviced by Borambola Wines, with the full range of estate-grown wines, Tuckerbox hoppy lager beer and apple cider.
Ms Miller said Cork and Fork was increasingly becoming a launching pad for future Wagga restaurants, with several businesses building a loyal following at Cork and Fork before opening the doors of a bricks-and-mortal outlet.
With Cork and Fork Fest returning for 2019, Mr McMullen said he and Ms Miller were hoping to continue to encourage food vendors to use local ingredients where possible, and really showcase the produce on offer in the Riverina.
“Our area is one of the biggest food bowls in Australia,” Mr McMullen said.
“It is so big and so diverse. People may not realise how many different things are produced here.”
Ms Miller said Cork and Fork was for everyone who wanted go along with a rug or a picnic chair and enjoy the food, drinks and music.
