The racing future of Frenze Hall is in grave doubt after the mare was injured at trackwork on Saturday morning.
The mare bled, occurring a three-month ban, and Heywood said the owners face a decision whether to retire her or not.
As a result, Frenze Hall was a notable omission from the 24 nominations for Saturday’s $150,000 SDRA Country Championships Qualifier (1400m) at Albury.
Heywood was devastated by the development.
“A week out from the best race she will have raced in and this happens,” Heywood said.
“It’s gut-wrenching.
“She would have been a live chance too.”
Exciting Corowa filly News Girl and last year’s winner of the qualifier, O’ So Hazy, headline the nominations for the feature.
Dottledo, a stablemate of News Girl, was the only other notable omission. She has been sent for a spell after finishing fourth in the Championships Preview.
A benchmark rating of 62 guaranteed a start with the connections of Arthur Porritt, Landmine and Supplyzing all facing a nervous wait to see if they can sneak into the field.
