A pending storm has not stopped Wagga residents taking their cars for a clean as red dust engulfs the city and takes a toll on people’s prized possessions.

It has only been a week since the last major storm of red hit the region and it’s predicted to stick around into the night.
Manager of Lake Albert Road’s Spic ‘N’ Span car wash service Tim Donohoe said there is always more cars following a dust storm.
“I suppose we see an increase of about 20 per cent of cars following a dust storm, but it’s better when we get some rain with that too,” Mr Donohoe.
“It’s always a bit busier in summer and it’s a seasonal business but we do see a bit of an upturn when the dust starts to settle in.”
Unfortunately, Spic ‘N’ Span missed out on business during previous dust storms due to a delay in fixing their National Broadband Network service.
For one Wagga resident, his black SUV is “absolutely the worst” for showing the effects of a dust storm.
“Black is a waste of time and money as I have to wash it all the time,” Geoff Simpson said.
Mr Simpson was vacuuming his car at Suds City car wash on Pearson Street due to the dust build up.
“With all the dust that has built up and I haven’t cleaned it for a while, it was time to clean it,” he said.
“The storm might bring on some rain and usually when I wash my car it seems to rain, but I’m hoping for that and you can see the dust storm building.”
Suds City’s Wagga manager Michael Symes said Wagga’s hot weather has been “keeping people away”.
“I haven’t really seen an increase in car washing and it’s been a bit slow for the first couple of days,” he said.
“Hopefully the storm tonight will bring a few more people in.”
Similarly, Josh Baker from Bakers Detailing said he also hasn’t “really noticed” an increase in car washes during the dust storm periods.
