South Sydney’s class shone as the inexperienced Rabbitohs line-up proved far too strong for Riverina.
Souths dominated from the outset for a 52-10 win as they started life under new coach Wayne Bennett in impressive fashion.
However it was far from all doom and gloom for the locals in front of a bumper crowd at Albury Sportsground on Saturday.
The Riverina side saved their best for last including a brilliant try to Daniel Foley off a smart Tyron Gorman kick off a scrum inside their own half.
Meanwhile Riverina’s under 23 side got off to a winning start in their Country Championships preparations with a come-from-behind win over Victoria Thunderbolts under 20s while the new women’s tackle team also scored a win over their southern counterparts.
