Sutherland will take a big team of 11 horses across the road for the bumper nine-race card at Wagga.
Seven of 11 horses running for Sutherland are maidens looking to record the first win of their careers.
Sutherland hopes Thursday could be the day a couple of his team break through for a win.
“A few of the maidens are going to be interesting, I think,” Sutherland said.
“A couple of them have finally drawn a gate, which is going to make a big difference.”
Sutherland believes two of his best chances are Two Wrongs Dont and Lets Get Animal in the first division of the Town Plate Luncheon Maiden Handicap (1300m).
“They have both finally drawn a gate. Both of them having been racing well, their fitness is good and I expect the both of them to run well,” he said.
“There’s not a lot between them. Animal is going to get better the further he goes. He was a bit underdone last start and needed the hit-out.
“Two Wrongs Dont has been running super well from terrible gates.”
Jon Grisedale takes the ride on Two Wrongs Dont from barrier one, while apprentice Wendy Peel takes the ride on Lets Get Animal from barrier six.
One horse Sutherland has changed tact with is Real Key, who will contest The Deck On Cup Day Benchmark 58 Handicap (1000m).
Real Key won on debut, prompting Sutherland to name the Country Championships as his target. He is now taking a different approach to the four-year-old son of Bon Hoffa.
“Real Key will be trained as a sprinter from here on in,” he said.
“A lot of the Bon Hoffas like to be kept fresh and sprint. He has really struggled in the heat, more than any other horse in my stable. I don’t know why.
“His run was outstanding the other day at Tumbarumba. He was unlucky not to win.”
Sutherland also expects a strong showing from Run Hoff Run in the Golden View Marquee Benchmark 58 Handicap (2000m).
It is also a heat of the Wagga Stayers Series, which Run Hoff Run leads.
“It’s a race he’ll be very competitive in,” Sutherland said.
“He seems to run good from outside gates with big weights. He was unlucky not to get the bob the other day and I expect him to run well.”
Extra Cool will contest the same race, who Sutherland says is looking for the 2000m.
