The six forums are a key part of the independent review being led by David Burgess. Held over the next two weeks, the consultations with clubs will provide updates on the review and clarify and consider some of the date out of the survey sent to participants last year.
Farrer League clubs Barellan and Coleambally will be first up on Sunday morning while Griffith, Leeton-Whitton and Narrandera are the first Riverina League clubs involved, with a separate afternoon session.
The review was commissioned jointly by AFL Riverina and AFL NSW/ACT to look at issues facing Australian rules in the region and develop recommendations for the sport’s strategic direction into the future.
The structure of senior and junior competitions, club sustainability, women’s football, and netball are among issues being examined in the review.
AFL Riverina was thrilled with the response to the survey with around 700 responses from around 3000 participants. The 23 per cent response rate was far higher than the 5 per cent rate in a similar review of Sydney’s competitions.
The AFL Riverina Board and AFL NSW/ ACT have already held meeting this week to discuss the status of the review, including initial insights and the consultation process ahead.
