Storer set new marks in the 15 years girls 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle and 50m butterfly and, remarkably, in the open age 200m freestyle and 15 years-and-over 200m individual medley.
Mooney, the 15 years boys champion broke records in his 100m freestyle, 50m breaststroke, 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke.
Chloe Donelan (13yrs 50m backstroke) and Dione George were the other individual record breakers. George’s three records were in 50m backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle for athletes with a disability. Rosarie’s senior girls relay team set the carnival’s 14th record in the final event of the night.
Elsia Cook, Sam Walker, Monique McRae and Angus Grigg won the diving events.
Webber was the winning house, claiming their first swimming carnival in 10 years and ending Rosarie’s five years of dominance.
MDCC sports coordinator, Nathan Irvine, praised the quality performances as well as the spirit of students at a carnival held under overcast conditions and a reshuffled program amid the threat of lightning.
“Despite the abnormal conditions, students from all houses continued to compete with great spirit under the college catch-cry of “five houses, one home” in diving, championship and novelty events,” Irvine said.
“House pride was on the line and the house coordinators and captains led the way with a highlight of the night once again being the house chants, taken out this year by Sherrin.”
MDCC will now send a strong team to the Combined Wagga High Schools carnival where they’re hoping to make it five straight years of success.
