Brooks is bound for the US later in the year after securing a scholarship with South Alabama Jaguars.
The former Turvey Park footballer spent the past 12 months in Melbourne, training with Prokick Australia in a bid to gain an opportunity in College Football.
The 25-year-old spent three weeks in the US last year where he kicked in front of Jaguars recruiting staff and it helped secure him a place with South Alabama in the Sun Belt Conference.
Brooks cannot wait to get over there.
“I’m looking forward to it. I’ve been training for a while now so I can’t wait to get into playing,” Brooks said.
“Having trained for a while now, you’re not sure whether you’re going to get anything out of it or not so it’s good to know now I’ve got something to look forward to.
“Just the experience alone with all that, I can't wait.”
Brooks’ decision to move to Melbourne and join Prokick has now been rewarded with a four-year scholarship, where he plans to study sports management.
The new season for the Jaguars does not begin until September, with training commencing in August. Brooks plans to head over in July to get settled in.
He has returned to Wagga now to work but will continue to make frequent trips to Melbourne for training with Prokick.
Brooks’ signing has already created headlines in the US, having been described as a ‘highly regarded punter from Australia’.
The Jaguars have an immediate opening for a punter, with two-year starter Corliss Waitman departing as a graduate transfer.
Brooks is quickly trying to get familiar with what awaits him at South Alabama.
“The conference I’m in has nice weather all year round, I’m not playing in snow or anything like that," he said.
“This season gone they didn’t go as good but they’ve picked up a wide receiver, another quarterback and some big fellas...so we might be alright.
“I’ll be doing what I can to keep my spot as a punter there.”
