Once again the Bulls were knocked out during the second week of finals, but coach Morgan Grivas is looking to become a real force in the competition this season.
Front rowers Joe Ioane, who has retired, and Angus Foster, who has moved away, are the only two confirmed departures.
Just like last season there are also doubts over star fullback Josef Glamuzina.
The representative player is currently back home in New Zealand, but hasn’t ruled out returning for another season.
“It’s a pretty similar situation to last year and he’s currently training with a NPC squad,” Grivas said.
“If he makes the cut with them he’ll remain in New Zealand otherwise he’s pretty keen to come back and have another year with us.”
Internationals Harrison Friswell and Vaughn Scott will remain for another season while Englishman Danny Maling is back for his second stint with the club.
Grivas said numbers are starting to build at pre-season training for the expanded season and expects the top four will provide plenty of different challenges.
“We’ve seen in the past few years teams make good runs from that fourth and fifth position,” he said.
“It is definitely going to be interesting if that continues with that develop and there has also been a good tussle for that fifth spot late into the season so how teams that may not be factoring into finals with that one less position continue to get up for matches late in the year will be interesting.”
