Wagga residents have well and truly lived through the extreme heat and local pool experts have brought the latest trends to keep an eye on this year.

Riverina Pool Supplies co-owner Georgina Smith said there hasn’t been a noticeable increase in pool supplies, despite the consecutive days over 40 degrees.
“I haven’t really noticed a great deal or a spate of more people needing pool supplies this summer as opposed to others,” Ms Smith said.
“Salt pools keep to themselves and just require a little bit of acid.
“Dust has been a big issue this year and people are requiring phosphate, but chlorine has not really increased.”
Wagga’s GPG architect Gioia Gianniotis said her team have identified three major pool trends and said some of the focus has shifted.
“We have worked on quite a few pools in architecture and also landscape architecture projects and the direction has shifted,” Ms Gianniotis said.
Shape
“We’ve found everyone wants clean and classic lines now, with rectangle shaped pools being very much in vogue and on trend,” the architect said.
“People are opting for long seats along the side of the pool, which gives them usability for families.
“The slimline shape is contemporary next to the current housing we’ve got.”
Colour
According to Ms Gianniotis, there has been a “real shift” from bright pool colours to neutral tones that blend into the surrounds.
“We’ve seen much more natural colours that suit our bush land setting in Wagga and the buildings we are building out of town,” she said.
“The fire blue has become pale blues, blue-grey’s and pale green, all natural colours.”
David Castle, from Castle Outdoor Creations, said people are attracted to these elements and features in their gardens and around their pool.
“We mainly offer paving around pools and natural stone pavers, granite and travertine are really popular at the moment,” Mr Castle said.
Smarter pools
Wagga’s property trends have shown that more people are attracted to a low maintenance lifestyle, with an increase on new dwellings.
Like property, Ms Gianniotis said this trend has moved into pool designs and their functionality.
“We’ve noticed that because people are so busy and a pool is high maintenance, there is a push for self-cleaning options,” she said.
“Automated pool covers are definitely on trend and people want to have a pool but they want to be able to maintain it easily.”
Ms Smith, pool supplier, said people are looking for robotic cleaners rather than suction cleaners.
