Justa Major has come up with barrier one for the $30,000 feature at Leeton.
It’s the same barrier Walker drew when Our Mach Jack won the two-year-old classic two years ago and the Temora horseman hopes it’s an omen for more success.
“We’ve had a bit of luck with the draws in the Breeders Plate over the years,” Walker said.
Justa Major was third in his heat earlier this month.
After a fast beginning he was crossed by favourite The Tiger Army but was only beaten by 5.4 metres.
Walker thought he was doing well on the line and was pleased with his efforts.
“He’s a lazy horse so he’s a bit hard to gauge,” he said.
“He had a couple of trials and he just followed them around, but some of those I was following at Coolamon can go a bit.
“But I was quite happy with him in the heats and if he can improve just a little bit in the final he’ll be thereabouts.”
After showing good gate speed on debut, Walker is looking to use it to his advantage on Tuesday.
Especially with his main dangers all drawn on the second row.
“He’s safe and he’s quick out so he’ll be in front,” Walker said. “It just depends on whether he says in front.
“He will be leading, I’ll be holding the front and it just depends on whether he is good enough then.”
The top two horses in each heat will all start on the back row.
Heat winners Realnspectacular and The Tiger Army are in eight and nine respectively while Jimmy Beach drew 10 and Here’s Your Bonus was consigned to 11 after galloping out at the gate.
Our Mach Jack was able to lead all the way to the win the group three feature two years ago and Walker believes this field has more depth than last year’s edition won in track record time by Major Roll.
Leeton’s feature was originally meant to be run on Friday before being changed due to the weather forecast.
Now it will be the second of two big harness racing meetings in the region.
Junee holds it’s Carnival of Cups meeting on Sunday where Walker has Justa Major’s older sister Jesszz Reflection engaged.
She has won one of her first five starts and is part of a long association Walker has had with broodmare Just Glenburn but he’s still looking for one of her offspring to show as much talent as she did.
“His mother was pretty good but she’s never had anything as good as herself,” Walker said.
“She was very quick out.
“Lady Waratah was quick out but she crossed her one night at Bathurst to lead and beat her so she was very fast.
“She won a couple of free for alls at Wagga.”
