However, in what’s proven a week of golfing miracles, the veteran wrote himself into the record books with a perfect approach on the 14^th hole at the Wagga Country Club.

“It was very unexpected to be honest,” Dodson said.

“I hit the shot and my playing partners immediately told me it was going in but I was convinced it had gone straight past.”

Dodson has enjoyed little success from the 14^th tee in past rounds, branding the hole “one of the hardest on the course”

“It’s quite a difficult hole actually and I never used to like it because of all the trees and branches – now it’s definitely my favourite hole,” he joked.

“I just pulled out the five-wood for it and it just all worked out for me.”

Dodson’s strike marks the first hole-in-one at the Country Club for 2019 and the second hole-in-one in Wagga in the past week after Max Horsnell’s Wagga City Club exploits on their 14^th tee.

“It’s pretty exciting for me because all the rest of my family are keen golfers and they’ve never got one before – I’m still the first to take one,” Dodson said.

The shot makes him the 30^th person in Country Club history to sink a hole-in-one on the par three 14th hole.
