More than 250 competitors are expected to test their skills at this year’s Gil Mathew Wagga Pro Rodeo.
Gates open at 4pm with the junior section kicking off the event which offers great entertainment for all ages.
The senior events start after the dinner break so crowds can stay for the entire event or just come for a few hours.
“People don't like to come out for a length of time, they like to come see so much action for a few hours and then go home,” rodeo contractor John “Happy” Gill said.
“It’s the new trend and it’s how we package the rodeo.
“It’s not drawn out all day it’s only on for a few hours like the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) events which only go for two-and-a-half hours and get huge crowds.”
More than 4000 people are expected to walk through the gates on Saturday February 9. Part of the proceeds from the night are donated to Kurrajong Waratah.
The rodeo is well supported by locals and businesses alike with major sponsor Gil Mathew Steel sponsoring the event since it started.

“He has been a great supporter of the rodeo,” Happy said.
“He looks more like a cowboy than the bull riders on the night.”
