Six new synthetic grass courts are in the process of being laid down at the Morgan Street facility with one court already glued down and ready for action.

These developments come after Wagga City Council’s decision in May last year to formally accept a $1.5 million grant from the state government under the Stronger Country Communities Fund, a large portion of which found its way to the South Wagga Tennis Club.

It’s a been a work-in-progress for South Wagga Tennis Club president Scott Toole, who has been agitating for funding and redevelopments for almost three years, and recent temperature spikes have made laying the synthetic turf a difficult process.

Construction began on December 7 last year and site workers said it would only take “another week and a half” to lay down the five remaining courts.

However, more time will be needed for the four junior Hot Shots courts, which are being built from scratch.

The Hot Shots courts, while smaller, require a new concrete base and paint before the surface is laid.

The facility will also have a 24-hour on-line booking system to four the six regular courts and the Hot Shots courts won’t require bookings.
