There are currently four fires still burning in Talbingo, Tumut, and Tumbarumba, with the largest in Possum’s Point near Tooma.
Originally, the fires began due to lightning strikes at the end of last week.
Local ground crews as well as 17 aircrafts are currently fighting the fires, with back burning being conducted whenever conditions allow.
Forecast storms combined with strengthening winds in the area may increase the spread, as lightning continues to strike the dry ground.
Smoke may likely be seen across the region and into Victoria, and the Rural Fire Service has issued a warning for motorists to be wary of its effects.
There may also be additional traffic due to the movement of emergency vehicles.
“Check the Fires Near Me app before you head out, and if you see any unattended fires after the recent lightning call triple zero,” said Brad Stewart of the Riverina RFS.
The Riverina Highlands fire service may also be contacted on 1800 679 737.
