Lane will return to the Ovens and Murray League after three seasons with Narrandera, including the past two as coach.
While Narrandera were not surprised by his decision, Lane’s departure is still a serious blow to the Eagles’ hopes of climbing off the bottom of the Riverina League ladder.
Lane was one of the stories of the 2018 season, winning the Jim Quinn Medal despite Narrandera not winning a game.
The popular key position player said it was a difficult decision to leave Narrandera.
“It was not an easy decision when you have invested a fair bit but it is what it is,” Lane said.
“I’ll miss it. You don’t see from the outside the things you get out of it but you build a lot of relationships and see improvement.
“I loved it, they are a great club with great people. I enjoyed every minute of it. Everyone at the club was really welcoming from day one, it was just time to pursue different things with our careers and there is every chance I’ll play for them again at some stage.
"It was a pretty hard decision to make for sure and something I didn’t take lightly.”
Lane and his partner recently returned from a holiday and have relocated to the border.
He considered travelling from Albury-Wodonga but with a lot of travel associated with his new job, Lane decided it was too much.
“It was probably going to be one or the other,” he said.
“I’ve played a lot of footy at Corowa and have some good friends there. They’ve picked up a few, too, which is good. I’ll see if I’ve still got it at that higher level.”
Lane is the latest in a series of big departures from the Riverina League over the off-season.
Lane joins Jayden Klemke, Shaun Campbell, Riley Corbett, Marshal Macauley, Mitch McKelvie and Campbell Lovell as some big losses from the competition.
Experienced clubmen Jamie Grintell and Shaun Brooker have taken over the coaching duties at Narrandera, who have managed a couple of key signings already in Ben Perry and Isaac Bunge.
