If you’re struggling to think of how to make the most of Australia Day this year, follow this handy itinerary to celebrate all things Aussie this weekend.
Triple M community breakfast
7-9am, Victory Memorial Gardens, FREE
Start your Australia day off right with a free breakfast for the whole community in the beautiful surrounds of Victory Memorial Gardens. Fill up on your Aussie breakfast favourites like snags and a lamington or two, and fuel up for the fun day ahead.
Hit 93.1 Family Fun morning
7-10am, Victory Memorial Gardens, FREE
Once you’ve filled up at the free breakfast, wander around the gardens for a range of activities on offer. Listen to the sweet sounds of local buskers, get competitive with a good old fashioned thong throwing competition and test your coordination out in an egg and spoon race.
Citizenship ceremony
From 8:30am, Civic Centre Arcade
For those welcoming new family, friends and community members to join in the Australia Day joy, the Wagga Civic Centre is hosting this year’s citizenship ceremony as people take the pledge to become an Australian Citizen.
Collins Park
Lunch time, off Forsyth St, FREE
Head down to Collins Park for a play and kick-around while parents sit back and relax in the shade of a tree. When you’ve worked up an appetite from all the celebrations, spark up the barbecue at the park’s facilities and throw some sausages and onions on for a classic Aussie snag sanga.
River float
Afternoon, Wagga Beach, FREE
Cool off in the afternoon with a float down the river ending at Wagga Beach. Whether it’s a blow up ring, flamingo, couch – you name it, inflate it and drift with the current in the cool river waters, soaking up the sun, breeze and natural Australian beauty around you.
