Earlier
A search is currently underway for a man after he went missing at Oura Beach at 1pm this afternoon.
“Just before 1 o’clock, he was seen struggling in the water,” said Wagga’s Inspector Adrian Telfer.
“Unfortunately, he was lost soon afterwards and so far we have been unable to recover him.”
Three SES crews are in the water, searching within two kilometres downstream.
This is the first water-related incident in Wagga since the beginning of 2019.
“The river is very popular at this time of the year, so it is an unfortunate reminder of the need to ensure of the conditions, and never swim alone and ensure,” said Inspector Telfer.
Crews will continue to search for the missing man until at least 10pm this evening, if he is not discovered sooner. The search will resume tomorrow morning.
A team of police divers from the Marine Area Command are currently en route from Sydney and are expected to arrive at the scene by 7pm.
Police will release further information on the man after family and friends have been notified.
More to come.
